Richard “Da Nang Dick[1] Blumenthal (born February 13, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York) currently serves as the senior Democratic United States Senator from Connecticut, having defeated World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon in the race to replace retiring Chris Dodd. He was the lone freshman Democratic Senator in the 112th Congress. Previously Blumenthal served as the Attorney General of Connecticut for twenty years, and prior to that he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and State Senate.

Blumenthal was the poster child for passage of the Stolen Valor Act.[2] In a rare moment of objectivity and clarity, Blumenthal referred to Republicans as "enemies of communism."[3]

Attorney General of Connecticut

In 2007, the libertarian-leaning Competitive Enterprise Institute ranked Blumenthal "the nation's worst state attorney general" and "a tireless crusader for growing the power of his own office and spreading largesse to his cronies."[4] During the nationally televised Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Blumenthal demeaned an innocent classmate of Kavanaugh by name, and impugned her as a sexually promiscuous teenager 36 years later to attack Judge Kavanaugh.[5]

U.S. Senate

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Abdelhakim Belhadj, Sen. John McCain, and Sen. Lindsey Graham. Belhadj, a veteran jihadi, was kidnapped by the CIA in 2004 and "rendered" to Libya where he spent 7 years in prison being "rehabilitated." He was released in March 2010 to reactivate the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, of which Ansar al Shariah was part. In August 2011 he was appointed commander of the Tripoli Military Council by the TNC, and in 2015 head of the Mujahideen Shura Council in Derna. Groups under Belhadj's command committed the Benghazi massacre in 2012 and the decapitation of twenty-two Christians in 2015.

Blumenthal, Ed Markey, and Jeanne Shaheen have accepted foreign campaign contributions from Burisma oil and gas and voted to give money Ukraine.[6]

Blumenthal called for riots and insurrection to protest the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to he Supreme Court.[7]

According to National Journal, Blumenthal is one of the two most liberal Senators.[8]

At a Big Tech hearing in mid-November 2020, Blumenthal expressed concerns that Facebook and Twitter weren't working hard enough to censor Breitbart and The Gateway Pundit.[9]

Stolen honor

Blumenthal is well known for lying over the course of many years that he fought in the Vietnam War, having received no less than five deferments.[10] Blumenthal is known for lecturing others on the importance of telling the truth despite shamelessly doing the opposite.[11] The senator was called out by Donald Trump in an October 2018 rally by the nickname “Da Nang Dick”,[1] with Da Nang being a province in Vietnam and “Dick” being a nickname for “Richard”. Even the liberal “fact-checking” websites Snopes and PolitiFact admitted that President Trump's assertions were “mostly true”.[12][13]

Communism

Blumenthal spoke at an awards ceremony hosted by a Communist Party od Connecticut whose leaders used the event to recruit potential members to the organization.[14] Blumenthal, one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, presented certificates of special recognition to three winners of the "Amistad Award," given annually by the Connecticut People’s World Committee, an affiliate of the Communist Party USA and the Marxist People’s World news site. The event was held in celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Connecticut/[15] Blumenthal used his speech at the ceremony to tout Democratic legislative policies, including Joe Biden's Build Back Better Act, according to the Yankee Institute, a free market think tank in Connecticut.[16]

Blumenthal was introduced at the event by Lisa Bergmann, a Communist Party member who blamed corporations for the "imperialism that exists in our world that is undermining the labor and environment." Bergmann and her fellow communist emcee, Ben McManus, issued invitations at the ceremony to join the Communist Party. "If you are not already part of the Communist Party, we invite you to participate and contribute and join," Bergmann said after Blumenthal's speech. "There's more and more people talking about socialism in this country as it becomes more and more clear that capitalism is not going to work for our future."

"I’m a member of the Communist Party, I love it. I think it’s an amazing organization," said Bergmann, who serves as an organizer for the Young Communist League USA. McManus echoed Bergmann’s remarks, inviting ceremony viewers "to join the Communist Party in this epic time as we make good trouble to uproot systemic racism, retool the war economy, tax the rich, address climate change, secure voting rights, and create a new socialist system that puts people, peace, and planet before profits."

Blumenthal’s wealth is so vast—one estimate puts it at $100 million—that he has sometimes been unaware of all of his investments, including in a real estate development company linked to the government of the Peoples Republic of China. Blumenthal said he was unaware of his investment in U.S. Shanghai LLC., which is listed on his annual financial disclosure, until contacted for comment by the Washington Free Beacon.[17]
