NYT: Ukrainians Fleeing Westward Are 'Refugees,' Ukrainians Fleeing to Russia Are 'Migrants'

Ukrainians fleeing westward to countries like Poland and Hungary are "refugees" but Ukrainians fleeing eastward to Russia are mere "migrants," according to the New York Times.

What an odd little map the NYT has created. Ukrainians fleeing violence by heading to the west are "refugees," while Ukrainians fleeing violence by heading east to seek refuge in Russia are just "migrants" (and are graphically minimized to the point of being barely visible). pic.twitter.com/Rp31UdVwLw

The New York Times changed the map to describe those fleeing eastward only as "people."
